Welcome to my website and art storefront.  My name is Karen Goodell and my artist name is Calvert, in honor of my grandmother who inspired me to follow the creative call upon my life.  Many years ago our Calvert family, including Lord Baltimore, founder of Maryland, traveled from England seeking opportunity and a freedom to worship and inspire others. My desire is the same, to populate this gallery with artwork that will inspire and speak to your heart.    I graduated from Hawkeye Institute of Technology, rated third in the nation at that time among excellent photography schools, with a degree in Commercial Photography. 

I worked as a custom color printer in a commercial photographic lab, so I expect the best when it comes to printing wall art. 
My photography and artwork have been displayed in local gallery showings and achieved various awards over the years. 
My life experiences since college have given me amazing opportunities in diverse types of photography.  A unique seven-year journey traveling the world, serving Christian missions organizations with my photography skills was for me an epic, life changing experience.  I joined University of the Nations (UofN), Kailua-Kona, Hawaii as a staff member in their photography school.  In this position I mentored student photographers, later leading one student on internship/outreach in Sarajevo, Bosnia.  Our goal was to photographically document the plight of the Bosnian people, hoping to raise awareness back home.  While on UofN's staff there for four years I had the opportunity for hands-on learning and broadening my skill development while also serving their publication as photographer, graphic designer and writer.

I believe the essence of photography is:
Emotion captured.  Life Illustrated.  History Documented.
Then when a photo that lends itself to something more, I love to take the creative process a step further, blurring the line between photography and fine art, now you've got 'fine art photography'!
